In 1918 the women’s suffrage movement successfully led to the passing of The Representation of the People Act, the first step in a major electoral reform that would extend voting rights to 8.5 million women across the UK. To mark the anniversary of this landmark development in British democracy, Changing Lives celebrates how the people of Sheffield have stood up for what they believe in over the past 200 years.

Dr Peter Campbell will present two sessions on 'Soviet Healthcare: Are Governments Bringing It Into The NHS?' exploring the threat of target-driven management. Originally a GP, Dr Campbell now helps create and lead health projects in ex-Soviet countries, and has been featured on platforms such as TEDx . He is a principal lecturer at Universities in Heidelberg and Berlin. Each session includes breakout and strategy groups, protest songs on NHS themes, and an exhibition on the ubiquitousness of PFI.
Charles Dowding has led the field of organic no-dig growing for 35 years, challenging common gardening myths and misconceptions. He has proven that you can achieve plentiful yields year-round, with less weeds, while improving soil health. He has produced numerous articles, books and a YouTube channel and appeared on the BBC. This talk will be followed by a Q&A with Charles and signed books will be for sale.
We can all agree that in an ideal world begging should not exist, but we can’t agree on whether we should give money to people who ask for it on our streets. This event is an opportunity to celebrate women of colour within the community, hearing about their personal journeys, challenges and achievements. It will include a short film screening, stalls, nibbles and drinks.
